Step by Step Setup
Use these steps in order. Realtime sync and Discord DMs both depend on browser or Discord permissions, so skipping a step can make the bridge look linked while tests still fail.
- 1Open bridge.hftools.org/hf-bridge and log into Hack Forums in the same browser profile.
- 2On the bridge page, make sure Hack Forums shows linked. If it does not, click Connect HF and authorize the app.
- 3Click Sync Realtime. Chrome and Brave users should install the official HF Tools Realtime Helper from the Chrome Web Store.
- 4If the Web Store is unavailable, use Download Manual Helper. Unzip it, open chrome://extensions, brave://extensions, or edge://extensions, enable Developer mode, and choose Load unpacked.
- 5If an older manual helper is already loaded, remove it before loading the fresh helper. Web Store installs update through the browser.
- 6Return to the realtime sync page and click Start Extension Sync. The helper opens Hack Forums, reads the realtime socket details, and returns to bridge status.
- 7Realtime should show linked. If it does not, confirm Hack Forums is logged in inside the same Chrome, Brave, or Edge profile, then run Start Extension Sync again.
- 8For Discord, make sure the member shares a server with HFNotify Bridge and allows direct messages from server members. Then click Connect Discord and authorize.
- 9For Telegram, click Open Telegram, open the bot, and send /start if Telegram does not start automatically.
- 10Click Test Notifications. Telegram and Discord should each receive the private test message for every linked destination.
FAQ
What notifications can this send?
The bridge forwards Hack Forums notifications for the linked account, including private messages, Convo messages, mentions, quotes, thread replies, quick loves, popularity updates, and contract events when those events are available to the account.
Why do I need the realtime helper?
Hack Forums protects its login cookies from normal web pages. The helper is a small browser extension that can read the logged-in Hack Forums session and socket details after the member grants browser permission.
Which browsers work for realtime sync?
Chrome and Brave should use the official Chrome Web Store helper. Edge and users who cannot access the Web Store can use the manual helper by opening edge://extensions, chrome://extensions, or brave://extensions, enabling Developer mode, and loading the unzipped helper folder.
Why do I have to remove and reload the helper?
Manual unpacked extensions do not update automatically. If an older manual helper is already loaded, remove it and load the fresh helper folder downloaded from this bridge page. Chrome Web Store installs update through the browser.
Why does Discord connect but the test fails?
Discord OAuth can link the account even when Discord refuses the private DM. The member needs to share a server with HFNotify Bridge and allow direct messages from server members, then reconnect Discord and test again.
Why does Telegram /start do nothing?
Telegram must be opened from the member's private bridge setup page so the bot receives the correct setup link. Return to the bridge page, click Open Telegram, then send /start if Telegram does not start automatically.
How long should realtime sync take?
It should usually finish in under a minute after Start Extension Sync. If it stays pending, make sure Hack Forums is logged in inside the same browser profile, remove any old helper version, reload the fresh helper, and run sync again.
Can mobile-only members use this?
Mobile users can receive Telegram and Discord notifications after linking, but the current realtime browser-session sync needs Chrome, Brave, or Edge on desktop. Future HF API support would be the clean mobile-friendly path.
What should I send if I need help?
Send the exact bridge error message, browser name, whether Telegram worked, and whether Discord failed. Never send Hack Forums cookies, passwords, API secrets, Discord or Telegram credentials, or bridge setup links.
